Ontario Bar Exam Results: When They Come Out and How to Check Them

You walk out of the exam hall, and then — nothing. For weeks. The gap between writing an Ontario licensing exam and learning the result is one of the most quietly stressful parts of the whole process, so here is exactly what to expect.

When are results released?

Approximately six to eight weeks after your sitting. The LSO does not publish an exact date in advance, and the wait has become enough of a sore point that candidates have formally petitioned the LSO to shorten it — for now, plan your life around the eight-week end of the range and treat anything earlier as a gift.

How do you check your result?

Results are posted to your LSO Connects account, and candidates are notified when they are available. There is no mailed letter and no phone call. On results day, LSO Connects tends to groan under the traffic — if it is slow, that is normal, not an omen.

What the result actually tells you

  • Pass or fail only. The LSO does not publish your score, and it does not publish the passing score. Everyone who passed is in the same undifferentiated boat — employers and the profession see a licence, not a mark.
  • A breakdown if you fail. Candidates who fail receive a more detailed breakdown of performance by subject area. This document is gold for a retake: it tells you exactly where to concentrate.
  • Nothing about individual questions. You will not learn which questions you missed. Re-litigating the exam in your head during the wait is a universal experience and a complete waste of the six weeks.

How to survive the wait

Three practical suggestions from people who have been through it. First, plan your next steps for both outcomes in week one — what changes at work if you pass, what your retake timeline looks like if you do not — then close the file. Second, do not burn your study materials or delete your index; keep them intact until results day. Third, remember the base rates: well-prepared candidates pass these exams at high rates, and if your timed practice exams were finishing comfortably, the most likely outcome by far is the one you want.
